Once you've allocated plants to a Planting Site through seedling withdrawals, Terraware lets you track your planting progress and monitor the health of your site over time. Planting progress is tracked in two places: the Planting Progress table, and the Plants Dashboard. Any user in your Organization can view planting progress and the Plants Dashboard. Admins and Managers can mark areas as planting complete.
How planting progress works
Plants need to be recorded in two steps before they appear in your planting progress data:
- Added to inventory — plants must first exist as inventory in a Nursery Batch.
- Withdrawn for planting — plants must be withdrawn from a Nursery Batch to a Planting Site using the Planting purpose in the withdrawal flow.
Once plants have been withdrawn to a Planting Site, they'll appear in the Planting Progress table and in the Plants Dashboard.
View planting progress
- Navigate to Seedlings > Withdrawals.
- Click the Planting Progress tab to see a table of all Planting Site Substrata to which you've sent plants.
The table shows the total number of plants recorded as planted in each Substratum. To see a full log of all withdrawal events for a Substratum — including quantities and dates — click the number in the Total Seedlings Sent column to open the Withdrawal History for that area.
View planting progress on a map:
- Click Map above the Planting Progress table to switch to the map view.
- Click within a Substratum on the map to see a summary of planting progress for that area.
Mark an area as planting complete
Marking a Substratum as planting complete tells Terraware that planting activities in that area are finished. This is required before the area is included in the hectares planted calculation in the Plants Dashboard.
- In the Planting Progress table, check the checkbox to the left of the Substratum or Substrata you want to mark as complete.
- Click Planting Complete in the action bar that appears above the table.
To undo planting complete:
- Check the checkbox to the left of the Substratum or Substrata you want to update.
- Click Undo Planting Complete in the action bar.
Plants Dashboard
The Plants Dashboard gives you a visual overview of planting statistics and Observation data for each Planting Site. Access it by clicking Dashboard in the left navigation and selecting the Planting Site you want to view at the top of the screen.
The dashboard updates as areas are planted, marked as planting complete, and monitored through Observations. Some sections will show limited data until the relevant actions have been completed — for example, Survival Rate data won't appear until at least one Observation has been completed for the Planting Site.
Plants and Species Statistics
This section appears as soon as plants have been allocated to the Planting Site through withdrawals.
- Total Planted Complete — the area in hectares marked as planting complete, shown as a percentage of the total Planting Site area.
- Total Plants Planted — the total number of plants recorded as planted based on inventory withdrawals.
- Total Species Planted — the total number of Species recorded as planted based on inventory withdrawals.
- Planted Species Chart — shows the percentage breakdown of Species planted. The top five Species are named, with additional Species grouped under "Other Species."
- Species Categories Chart — shows the percentage breakdown of Species by category, including the percentage marked as rare.

Stratum Trends
This section shows trend lines for observed plant densities and survival rates by Stratum, based on completed Observations. Use the selector to view data by Stratum.
- Plants per Ha Chart — shows the trend of observed plant densities over time, including standard deviation.
- Survival Rate Chart — shows the trend of observed Survival Rates over time by Stratum.
Stratum Trends
Note: Some Stratum data may not be shown if the Planting Site only includes one Stratum, or if not all Strata and Substrata of the Planting Site have been observed at least once.
Plant Density
This section shows observed plant densities as of the latest Observation.
- Observed Density — the plant density (plants per hectare) based on plants observed within all completed monitoring plots in the latest Observation.
- Observed Density Per Stratum Chart — shows observed plant density against the target density for each Stratum in the latest Observation. Target density is set when the Planting Site is created.

Survival Rate
This section appears once at least one Observation has been completed for the Planting Site.
- Survival Rate — the overall percentage of plants that have survived since t0, based on the t0 data set for the Planting Site.
- Stratum Survival — the Strata with the highest and lowest Survival Rates among all observed Strata.
- Species Survival — the Species with the highest and lowest Survival Rates among all observed Strata.
- Species Survival Breakdown — the percentage of plants recorded as live and dead per Species across all Observations.
Survival Rates cannot be calculated until t0 data has been set for the Planting Site. For more information, see Survival Rate Calculations.
Survival Rate
Note: "Other" species observed during Observations do not appear in the Species Survival Breakdown chart unless they have been matched with Species in your Species list. To learn more about adding Species to your list, see Managing Your Species List.
Site Map
This section shows a map of the Planting Site as of the latest Observation.
- Use the legend to toggle between Planting Site, Strata, and Substrata boundary views.
- Use the visibility toggles to show monitoring plot photos and videos and the locations of recorded live and dead plants. Click on icons in the map to view additional details.
- Use the Observation Events and Survival Rate toggles to view additional Observation data on the map.
