Planting Planning for Planting Sites

After your Organization has at least one Planting Site in Terraware, you can set site goals for what species, are planted, and where and when they are planted in the Planting Site's strata. 

For each Planting Site, you can plan entire Planting Seasons, including high level species targets and daily planting plans. You can set the initial planting density for site strata, as well as the target plant density to maintain after the initial planting is completed.

Set Plant Density Goals

1. Navigate to Plantings > Planting Plans.
2. Select a Planting Site.
3. In the Planting Plan page, navigate to Site Goals to manage the site plant densities.
4. In the Initial Planting Density and Target Plant Density tables, click the pencil icon to set or edit the densities.
5. Enter the density for each of the site's Strata.

The number of plants represented by the plant densities will be calculated at the site, Stratum, and Substratum levels.

The Initial Planting Density is the number of plants per hectare that your organization aims to plant at the site during the initial planting activities. 

The Target Plant Density is the number of plants per hectare that your organization aims to have and maintain in the site after initial planting is completed. It can account for anticipated mortality.

Assign Species to Plant

1. Navigate to Plantings > Planting Plans.
2. Select a Planting Site.
3. In the Planting Plan page, navigate to Site Goals to manage a list of species to plant.
4. Click the plus sign icon or Add Species link to add a species to the list.
5. Optionally, click the Assign Strata link to assign species to Strata where the species are planned to be planted,
6. Optionally, click the pencil icon to set or edit a target number of each species to plant.
7. To delete a species from the list, click the delete icon to the right of the species.

When you assign species to StrataThe total number of plants of Species to Plant may differ from the total number of plants represented by the Initial Planting Density and the Target Plant Density. 

Manage Planting Seasons

To add a Planting Season:

1. Navigate to Plantings > Planting Plans.
2. Select a Planting Site.
3. In the Planting Plan page, navigate to Planting Seasons to manage planting seasons.
4. Click the Add Planting Season button to create a new Planting Season.
5. Enter a Season Name.
6. Enter a Start Date and End Date for the season.
7. Optionally, check the Copy previous season checkbox to copy the target species from a previous season, and select the season from which to copy.
8. Click the Create Season button to create the season.

To manage Species Targets for a season:

1. Within the Planting Season page, navigate to the Species Targets tab to manage the list species to plant in the site in the season. Species to plant are managed at the Substratum level.
2. To add species under a Substratum, click the Add Species link directly under it. (Note: If you used the Copy previous season feature when you created the season, the previous season's Substrata species will be pre-listed.)
3. After adding a species to a Substratum, click the pencil icon next to the species to add a target quantity. 
4. Enter the number of plants of the species to be planted in the Substratum in the season.
5. To delete a species from the list, click the delete icon to the right of the species.

To view a list of all of the species in the season, along with a total of the target numbers across all Substrata, click the Species Summary link. The summary shows the numbers of each species allocated toward the season, withdrawn to the season, and left to plant in the season. The Left to Plant numbers are based on the number withdrawn for planting subtracted from the target numbers.

Note: When a Planting Season is created and Species Targets are added, an alert banner appears in the Seedling Inventory Planning page so that the Nursery can start planning to have inventory ready for the season. When plants are allocated to the Planting Season in the Inventory Planning pages, an alert banner appears in the Planting Season page so that planting managers can start planning Planting Dates for the season, based on the plants available through allocation.

To manage Planting Dates for a season:

1. Within the Planting Season page, navigate to the Planting Dates tab to manage the dates of the planting activities in the field.
2. To add a Planting Date, click the Add Date button. 
3. Enter a date for the Planting Date.
4. Check the checkbox next to the Substratum to include it in the Planting Date. Note: The species selected for the Substratum in the Species Targets tab will be pre-listed.
5. To add species, click the Add Species link.  
6. Select the species to add, and enter the number of plants of the species to be planted on the Planting Date. Note: The Available to Schedule column shows the number of plants of each species allocated by the Nursery toward the season, minus the number of plants already in Planting Dates, including the current Planting Date.
7. To delete a species from the list, click the delete icon to the right of the species.
8. Click the Save button to save the Planting Date without sending a seedling inventory withdrawal request.
9. Click the Save & Request button to save the Planting Date and send a seedling inventory withdrawal request.

Note: When an inventory withdrawal request is sent, an alert banner will appear in the Inventory pages that notifies the Nursery about a pending request to fulfill plants for the Planting Date. The Nursery can then use a dedicated Planting Date Withdrawal Request flow to withdraw plants toward the Planting Date. 

To edit Planting Season details, click the pencil icons next to the name and date range to change the names and dates.

To delete a Planting Season, click the kebab menu at the top right of the Planting Season card, and click the Delete Planting Season option. Deleting the season will remove all Species Targets and Planting Dates from the Inventory pages. But any planting withdrawals done toward the season will be preserved. Deleting a season cannot be undone.

To see the history of changes to a Planting Season:

1. Find the Change History link at the bottom of the Planting Season page.
2. Click the link to expand the log of recorded events for the changes made to the Planting Season, including the name, date range, Species Targets, and Planting Dates.

To close a Planting Season, click the kebab menu at the top right of the Planting Season card, and click the Close Planting Season option. Closing a season marks it as closed and prevents further changes. Closing a season cannot be undone.
